Waiting for Amelia

Amelia’s journey began in Argentina on our honeymoon in late 2011.  While in El Chalten, our little hitchhiker decided to make her appearance at the time of conception.  That makes her a mountaineer and world traveler already since we were miles from home in a world renowned climbing town. Life in the womb must have looked appealing enough that our little hitchhiker, Amelia, decided to attach in my womb and travel through South America with us and come back stateside for a 9 month journey prior to arrival.

The little hitchhiker slowed Mom down a bit in the first trimester with the typical nausea and sleepless nights.  But soon thereafter, we were up and at it again, exploring the trails and enjoying our journey together.  Some of the little hitchhiker’s more notable in-utero accomplishments include running the 25-mile Collegiate Peaks trail run in late April, trail runs on our favorite trails in the foothills, Crested Butte, and our property.  We also crewed Scott at the Hardrock 100 and “Hitch” and I ran our own mini-Hardrock during the same time.  Late into pregnancy, our little hitchhiker showed her mountaineering prowess and joined me and our dear friend Brian in summiting LaPlata Peak and Missouri Mountain, two 14,000 foot peaks in the Leadville area.  We also summited Fairview Peak while Scott was busy building the cabin. Just prior to delivery, we stayed a bit closer to home and climbed Bear Peak in Boulder.

We had to wait past our due date as Amelia decided to perfect her hair and makeup before her arrival into the real world.  In doing so, she detached from the welfare support system known as the umbilical cord)): At long last, she decided to join the ranks of the Republicans on the work for food program four days past her expected due date.  She had quite the journey in-utero and we can’t wait to show her the world!
